Roof Insurance Claims

Statistics show that there are three possible storms a year in Colorado’s “Hail Alley” that could damage our roof, and suddenly you have to navigate unfamiliar insurance territory of roof insurance claims. While this can be a daunting process, Summit Roofing Solutions is here to make it seamless and easy. Call us today for a free estimate.

Roof Insurance Claims are tops in Colorado

Colorado has some the most frequent hailstorms in the country. In 2018, Colorado was second in the nation for the number of hail claims behind Texas. From 2016-18, homeowners made 395,025 claims, according to the Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association (RMIIA). In fact, the state’s largest recorded hail stone came in Bethune, Colo., measuring at just shy of 5 inches and weighing 8.5 ounces.

While it’s important to have your roof evaluated soon after such a hail event, it’s also important to pick the right contractor.  There are literally hundreds of “storm chasers” who travel to Colorado in May and June — knowing these are top hail months — to cash in on the storm. And there’s millions at stake. The RMIIA reports that in the last 10 years, hail storms have caused more than $5 billion in damage in Colorado. Nationally, the past five years worth of wind and hail damage accounted for roughly 40 percent of all insurance losses, averaging about $15 billion annually, according to the RMIIA.

Hail and wind can wreak havoc on all roofs, but most especially those that have aged, or that were installed with lower quality materials used by the previous roofing company.

There are a number of questions and misunderstandings when it comes to roof insurance claims in regard to deductibles, depreciation, and who pays for what. Remember, every insurance company is different and their approach to your claim is according to their policies and procedures. Always contact your agent for details and have your roof inspected by Summit Roofing Solutions before turning in a claim to ensure that there is enough damage to warrant a claim. Our insurance claims specialists are dedicated to helping homeowners to clearly understand the process. Once your home is approved for replacement, schedule repairs and replacement with us. Your insurance proceeds should be enough to cover the costs of repair. Your deductible should be your only “out of pocket” expense.
