  1. Determine the age of your roof

There are many signs that your roof could potentially be reaching the end of its life. Many experts in the roofing industry agree that an average roof will last anywhere between 20 and 25 years, while higher quality roofs will last between 30 and 50 years. If your roof has only one layer over the decking instead of many, chances are you have a newer roof. If this is not the case, your roof could potentially be more than 20 years of age and should consider the thought of installing a new roof that matches the building requirements of your municipality. If you have any doubts about the age of your roof, never hesitate to get an expert opinion from a local, trusted roofing company like Summit Roofing Solutions.

  1. The Shingles

What is your first impression after assessing the shingles on your roof? Are they curling and buckling, or are they lying flat and sticking properly? If you can visibly see missing shingles, or shingles that aren’t sticking and are buckling, it could possibly mean that your roof is running out of life or defective material was used. A simple test can be used to see whether or not your roof has much life left. Simply lift at the bottom of the shingle gently to see if the shingles are still adhering properly. Do this test in various places throughout the surface area of your roof. If your shingles do not come lose with this method, chances are your roof is still in working condition. If your shingles are not sticking properly along many areas of the roof, it might be time to consider a new roof installation. As always, contact a licensed roofing contractor if you’re not sure whether or not this applies to you.

  1. Check your gutters for granules

Look in your gutters for loose granules coming off your shingles after any sort of storm. Roofs tend to lose more granules towards the end of their life. If you’re able to see a large amount of granule in your gutters it may be time to consider a roof replacement. If you especially notice more granule in the gutters where the valleys are, you may be more susceptible to leaks. Elements such as rain or snow find their way through the valleys into your gutters causing more wear and tear in these areas of your roof. This is why it is always a good idea to double up on protection in the valleys of your home. Summit Roofing Solutions installs an ice & water barrier under the shingles and on top of the synthetic underlayment on all of our roofing projects to insure maximum protection. Another method to insure you will not get any leaks in your valleys during winter is to install heat tap at least half way up in order to keep ice buildup at bay.  If you are experiencing any leaking around these areas of your home, give us a call and we will be more than happy to help.

  1. Check for Hail Damage

When looking for hail impact marks on your roof there are things you should be looking for and determining before turning in a claim to your home insurance provider. Most home owner insurance companies will be looking for a minimum of 8-10 impact marks on each facet of your home inside a 10’x10’ area before they replace your entire roof. Other areas to look for hail damage are along the gutters, fascia, and on any venting you may have on your roof. Sometimes hail impact marks can be hard to determine on a roof that is older than 20-25 years of age. If you have any questions on whether or whether not, you have hail damage call a local roofing company like Summit Roofing Solutions. We will come out and assess the damage at no charge. As always it helps to get an expert opinion on the damages on your roof caused by mother nature before you put in a claim. Sometimes it isn’t necessary to put in a claim if you don’t need to.

  1. Check your attic

If you’re able, get into your attic in order to see if there is any moisture or not. One way to tell if your attic is getting moisture is to test your plywood. If there are any spots on your roof that sink or give in when walking on top of it, you might have rotted or rotting plywood. If you have any areas on your roof that fit this description call a local licensed roofer immediately to assess the damage that has been caused by the rotting plywood and to find out what could possibly be causing the moisture in the first place.

Roofing Contractors

Summit Roofing Solutions LLC

Greeley Colorado roofing contractors are numerous. How can you decide which roofing contractor to work with? We hope you’ll read our blog post for tips on this important decision.

There are many good and reputable roofing contractors, including our company: Summit Roofing Solutions, LLC, right here in Greeley, Colorado. Here are several tips for you to be able to easily decide which roofing company to hire for your home’s roof repair.

Roofing Contractors

First, ask if the roofing contractor has  more than five years of experience in roof repair and construction. If the roofing contractor has less than five years or if they are relatively new, be careful because they simply might not have enough experience yet. Summit Roofing Solutions, LLC has a combined 25 years of service in roof repair, home remodeling and home construction.

Next, find out if you can find any testimonials from customers on the roofing contractor’s website. If you can’t find any or if they’re vague or don’t have actual names, that could possibly be a deciding factor as to whether or not you should work with them. Be sure to ask to see testimonials or better yet, ask for references you can call and speak with.

Independent Roofing Company

The dreaded nightmare situation has happened: a terrible hail storm has passed through where you live and the roof of your home has been damaged but you’re not sure yet how bad the damage is. Your doorbell starts to ring, seemingly, constantly with roofing company sales people from other states, pitching their roofing services. You’d rather work with a local independent roofing company so you start Googling for one. You tell Google: “independent roofing company near me.” Google shows you search results of roofing companies near your home. But we encourage you to search a little further – in Greeley, Colorado – for more choices, not necessarily “near me” searches.

We hope you’ll call us: Summit Roofing Solutions, LLC. But even if you don’t, we still want to help you by giving you these tips when you begin to decide which local independent roofing company you’ll hire to get the job done right.

Independent Roofing Company

Tips for Hiring an Independent Roofing Company

First, make sure the roofing company choices you’ve narrowed your list down to have reviews and testimonials. That’s the best way to make sure you’ll get the very best roofing company. Studies have proven that 90% of people rely on peer reviews to tell them if a company is trustworthy or not. Most reviews can be considered by you in your decision-making process.

Next, find out who the owners of the independent roofing company are. Most of the “out-of-towners” are huge corporate-owned roofing companies that hire crews that travel from town to town. They usually don’t have outstanding, personalized customer service like an independent roofing company (usually) does.

We are a family-owned roofing company, operated by Matt McPhee and his son, Zach McPhee. We believe the qualities of the best roofing company have many, many years of experience. We have over 25 years of contracting experience.

Another sign of a great roofing company is that it’ll provide friendly, personalized customer service. Our interactions with you are always helpful and efficient. You’ll be working with the owners of this company, when you hire Summit Roofing Solutions, LLC.
